Our Mission
Mnemosyne is a research-driven arts organization exploring the relationship between contemporary art, cultural memory, and place. At a time when cultural experience is increasingly standardized, we create exhibitions, publications, residencies, and collaborations that engage local histories, material traditions, and forms of knowledge at risk of disappearance. Founded in 2024 on the Greek island of Hydra, Mnemosyne approaches cultural heritage as a living resource, bringing renewed relevance to the past through artistic practice and critical inquiry.
What We Do
Mnemosyne develops projects that connect research, contemporary artistic practice and cultural engagement. We develop exhibitions, site-specific projects, and thematic programs that activate historically significant places. Our residency programs give artists, writers, musicians, and scholars the time and context to work in meaningful dialogue with a place and its community, while creating new cultural value for the owners and stewards of these sites. We commission new work by contemporary artists whose practices expand our ongoing inquiries into memory, identity, place, and heritage, creating unique opportunities for collectors and galleries to support new work emerging from these contexts.
Cultural Partnerships & Public Programming
Mnemosyne develops cultural partnerships and public programs with museums, institutions, foundations, and international art fairs. We curate lectures, conversations, performances, screenings, and other forms of public programming that connect contemporary art with the histories and cultural traditions of the places that inform our work. Our programs deepen relationships with place while bringing local stories and artistic perspectives to new audiences. Through the Mnemosyne Club, our international community of art collectors and patrons, we extend these connections through a global network.
Publishing
Mnemosyne Publishing extends the organization’s research into books, editions, and recordings. Each publication emerges from a particular project and brings together artistic practice, historical research, local knowledge, and critical writing. We imagine these published works as enduring cultural objects or living archives. Through carefully produced editions and collaborations with artists, writers, musicians, and scholars, Mnemosyne Publishing creates lasting records of the histories and cultural encounters at the heart of our work.
